A railroad company announced it will stop genetic testing of employees who filed claims for carpal tunnel syndrome.
The action comes shortly after the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against the company. It is the first case the agency has ever filed to halt genetic testing.
The EEOC alleged that employees of Texas-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad were not told about the testing or asked for their consent. One employee, who refused to provide a blood sample because he suspected it would be used for genetic testing, was threatened with imminent discharge, the agency said.
