The National Safety Council, a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization, has re leased a proposed voluntary ergonomics standard.

The proposal, Management of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders, is available for formal public review and comment until March 13. While not a replacement for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's rule, the NSC said its voluntary proposal is important for industrial workplaces, such as agriculture, construction and maritime, that were excluded from the agency's final standard. The standard is intended to serve as a voluntary guide for occupational safety and health professionals charged with controlling work-related cumulative trauma disorders, the organization said.
