Washington state legislators have unveiled two bills aimed at repealing the state's ergonomics standard.

The state's final rule, which is a separate rulemaking act from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's national standard, was adopted May 26, 2000. The requirements will be phased in over a period of six years, beginning July 1, 2002.

Legislators have offered up two identical bills, H.B. 1896 and S.B. 5882, that would delay the standard for two years and possibly longer. Both bills were introduced in early February and have since been referred to committee.
