Nov. 18--Recent job-creation announcements by Dell Inc., Unilin Flooring NC LLC and Citigroup are a bright light at the end of a long employment tunnel for the Triad.

But the region's overall job growth remains anemic compared with the country's 200 largest metro areas and is under cutting gains in some sectors, according to a report by the Milken Institute, a research group based in Santa Monica, Calif. The report, Best-Performing Cities, is based on an index comprising nine categories that evaluate job, wage and salary growth over one- and five-year periods.
