LITTLE ROCK, Ark. _ Oh, has Bill Clinton worked to shape his legacy.
Even as the paint was drying inside his presidential library here, he completed a final round of fact checking the other day. As he walked into the replica Oval Office, he discovered a few medals behind his wooden desk were out of order, so he rearranged them to appear precisely as they had in Washington.
When he passed a red-and-blue map of the 1992 election results, he noticed that an artist had incorrectly coded Montana. He reminded the curators that he had won the state, beating George H.W. Bush by 10,300 votes (with the help of Ross Perot). Aides ordered a new piece and prayed it would arrive for the building's dedication Thursday morning.
Not all details, though, have received such a careful review of the factual record in the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Center.
