Nov. 17--POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Potsdam residents, activists and members of nearby communities focused Tuesday night on the effects a Wal-Mart supercenter would have on the environment.
The three-hour discussion in the Lawrence Avenue Elementary School cafeteria concentrated on the draft environmental impact statement for the proposed 184,300-square-foot store on Route 11 just west of the village.
A calm but passionate crowd of about 400 listened to more than 40 speakers, both supporters and opponents, voice their opinions on the heated and emotional topic.
The Potsdam town Planning Board is taking the comments from the public hearing and compiling them in helping revise the DEIS....
