Nov. 17--SAVING ON TAX BILLS STARTS NOW: If you think you don't have to deal with taxes till next April, think again. Between now and Dec. 31, you can take steps that will save you money when you fill out your 1040 in the spring:

--Donate to charity. If you itemize deductions, you can deduct your charitable contributions. If you give more than $250 to a charity, it will give you a receipt. Save it in case the Internal Revenue Service wants proof of your donation.

If you want to donate a car, "this year is a better year to do it" than next...
