Secretary of State Colin Powell and three other Cabinet secretaries resigned, the White House announced Monday, setting the stage for a major reshuffling of President Bush's policy team.
Bush planned to nominate National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice to succeed Powell, according to multiple news reports late Monday. Rice's top aide, Stephen Hadley, was expected to fill her position.
The other Cabinet exits are Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman, Education Secretary Rod Paige and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham.
They follow the departures of Attorney General John Ashcroft and Commerce Secretary Don Evans, both announced last week. All told, there will be at least six new faces in Bush's Cabinet.
There could be more, though talk in Washington has Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld staying for at least a while....
