IRVING, Texas_The Detroit Lions lost to the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, and from this we can absolutely conclude that, um, you know, the Cowboys _ I say this with confidence _ scored more points.
This is not to say the loss was a fluke. It happened for clear reasons: Dallas ran the ball better, the Lions' special teams made some mistakes, Dallas suckered the Lions on a trick play, and the Lions' secondary got beat at the worst possible time. But those were causes of a result, not symptoms of a greater problem.
You can try to draw an accurate conclusion from a single NFL game, but it's easier to draw a street map of Rome.
