SAN JOSE, Calif. _ When Scott Peterson's double-murder trial was less than one month old, prosecutors got the worst news possible: A juror who was kicked off the case told reporters he was bored stiff and if he had to vote right then, he would acquit.

Justin Falconer's comments outside the Redwood City courthouse last June settled like a dark cloud on the prosecution and colored coffee shop commentary for months after.

But it's four months later now, on the eve of closing arguments that start Monday, and legal analysts say the cloud has lifted and the case has become too close to call.

The pressure is on for both prosecutor Rick Distaso _ an earnest 36-year-old former military lawyer from Modesto _ and defense lawyer Mark Geragos _ a charismatic Los Angeles lawyer-to-the-stars _ to make the closing arguments of their lives.
