Moderate caffeine intake during pregnancy is not associated with lower birth weight or reduced gestational age, reported Dr. Britt Clausson of the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, and associates.

Women who consumed at least 500 mg/day of caffeine (the equivalent of 22 ounces or more of brewed coffee) and those who had less than 100 mg/day of caffeine (4 ounces or less of brewed coffee) delivered babies who had similar birth weights (3,647 g vs. 3,660 g) and gestational ages (277.2 days vs. 278 days) after adjustment for variables such as maternal age, height, and body mass index.
