VAIL, COLO. -- Fallopian tube cancer appears to be a part of the hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, Dr. Susan A. Davidson said at a conference on obstetrics and gynecology sponsored by the University of Colorado.
Multiple prior isolated reports of a possible link between fallopian tube cancer and BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations prompted Ontario Cancer Registry officials to conduct the first-ever survey of unselected cases of fallopian tube cancer.
Of the 44 participating patients with fallopian tube carcinoma, 5 (11%) proved to have a BRCA1 mutation, and 2 (5%) had a BRCA2 mutation, said Dr. Davidson, chief of the division of gynecologic oncology at the university in Denver.
