Diabetic women without known coronary disease are at the same high risk for a fatal coronary event as are nondiabetic women who have had a prior MI, Dr. Elizabeth L. Barrett-Conner reported at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association in New Orleans.
In contrast, diabetic men having no history of coronary disease are at significantly lower risk of death due to coronary heart disease (CHD) than nondiabetic men who have had a prior coronary event, at least in the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Rancho Bernardo Study said Dr. Barrett-Conne of the University of California, San Diego.
