We at people for the ethical treatment of animals are thrilled that Ann Martin warned readers not to buy dogs from puppy mills or pet stores ("Purchasing a Pet," September 2004, p. 51). However, we discourage people from buying animals from so-called responsible breeders too.
It is irresponsible for anyone to chum out more animals when so many are dying for lack of good homes.
