HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C -- Fluoroscopic guidance can help physicians more accurately inject Durasphere, a bulking agent used to treat women with stress urinary incontinence due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency, according to Dr. James Lukban.
Injection of Durasphere at the urethrovesical junction gives additional support to the urethra, decreasing urine leakage. Without fluoroscopic guidance, however, it can sometimes be difficult to detect misplacement of the material during the procedure, Dr. Lukban said at the annual meeting of the American Urogynecologic Society
X-ray guidance during Durasphere injection can help ensure accurate placement and avoid wastage of the bulking agent, said Dr. Lukban, director of urodynamics at the Pelvic Floor Center, Tenet-Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia.
