JEFFERSON CITY, Mo _ The Katy Trail passes though some of Missouri's most historic landscape.
The state's beautiful Capitol puts that history on display.
The 87-year-old domed building is crammed with murals depicting Western exploration, Indian skirmishes and Civil War battles.
The highlight is the House Lounge, covered with the work of Depression-era artist Thomas Hart Benton. The murals, called "A Social History of the State of Missouri," jump off the wall, as much for the content as the color.
