Fewer visitors attended America's amusement and theme parks last year than in 2002, but parks in and near the Upper Midwest continued to do well.
Paramount Kings Island near Cincinnati had 3.2 million visitors last year; Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon was up 10 percent to 430,000 visitors, and Cedar Point reported a 3 percent increase to 3.3 million visitors.
Meanwhile, the struggling Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Aurora, Ohio, was sold in April after its attendance fell 7 percent in 2003. Its animal exhibits and shows were removed and its name switched back to Geauga Lake _ but it opened on time last month and has deals to lure back customers.
