The last days of the Czarist Russian Empire are being celebrated in, of all places, Santa Fe, which for the summer will come to resemble St. Petersburg on the Rio Grande.
The major event is "Nicholas and Alexandra: At Home With the Last Tsar and His Family," an exhibition at Santa Fe's Museum of Fine Arts of art, treasures and personal possessions of the last ruling Romanovs, who were brutally murdered by the Communists in 1918.
Taken from the family's favorite Alexander Palace and the summer palace at Tsarskoe Selo, many of these objects have never been on public display.
There are Faberge jeweled eggs, porcelain decorative pieces, lush tapestries, portraits and other paintings, lavish uniforms, court dresses and miniature furniture belonging to the Romanov children. Family books, photographs and personal letters will also be on view. There are even some rare home movies.
