KENNEDY SPACE CENTER _ Five former space-shuttle astronauts took their official places in history Saturday, as America's space program faces an uncertain future in the aftermath of the destruction of shuttle Columbia last year.
The five _ Kathryn Sullivan, Richard Covey, Frederick Gregory, Norman Thagard and the late Francis "Dick" Scobee _ were the third group of shuttle astronauts to be inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame since it opened 14 years ago.
They bring to 57 the number of space explorers so honored.
