DETROIT _ The Detroit Red Wings lost their captain, Steve Yzerman, and then they lost to the Calgary Flames. Now they must win their next game, or face an all-too-early summer vacation.
A 1-0 defeat Saturday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena dropped the Wings to a 3-2 deficit in the second-round series, which resumes Monday night at Calgary's Saddledome. The last time the Wings rallied to win a playoff series from 3-2 was in 2002, in the Western Conference Finals vs. Colorado. Detroit had not been shut out at home since April 16, 1997, in the first game of a first-round series against St. Louis.
Yzerman went down 11:57 into the second period after getting hit in the head when Mathieu Schneider's shot from the right point deflected off defenseman Rhett Warrener's shin pads.
