DALLAS _ Life is cruel for relievers.
They take their first steps toward being disregarded the minute they move into the bullpen, the detention camp for failed starters. They give up a run, they've "blown" a save, now an official stat, while their long-lost brethren in the rotation can give up three in six innings and still be praised for a "quality start."
There is no stat for the faint-hearted starters such as the HO (Horrible Outing) or the RGKA (Really Got Knocked Around) or the dreaded WWTT (What Were They Thinking?)
But we digress.
