The natural history of valvular heart abnormalities in patients treated with dexfenfluramine or the fenfluramine and phenterimine combination called "fen-phen" appears more reassuring than earlier feared, according to the results of the largest controlled, blinded study to date.
The study included 371 patients treated with dexfenfluramine, 341 who'd been on fen-phen, and 431 untreated obese controls, Dr. Julius M. Gardin said at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association in New Orleans.
