ORLANDO, FLA. -- Laparoscopic hysteroplasty is an effective alternative to hysterectomy in women with menorrhagia and myomas who want to preserve their uterus, Dr. Michael L. Moore said during the annual meeting of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
The procedure, developed by Dr. Moore, is a laparoscopic, morcellator-assisted myomectomy and ablation procedure, which unlike other uterus-sparing treatments, does not involve hysteroscopy. The morcellator is used for both incision and excision, said Dr. Moore, director of the Advanced Women's Health Institute in Denver.
A comparison of 33 women who underwent laparoscopic, morcellator-assisted myomectomy and ablation and 108 women who underwent other uterus-sparing procedures that involved hysteroscopy suggests the Moore laparoscopic hysteroplasty procedure is at least as effective and efficient.
The operating time was 106 minutes, compared with 176 minutes for laparoscopic myomectomy with hysteroscopic endometrial ablation and myomectomy with myolysis as necessary (LMAM). The operating time was 120 ...
