FORT WORTH, Texas _ Don't look now, but the First Family of baseball in Texas _ that would be the Ryans, not the Bushes _ is expanding its horizons.
Where that will stop is anyone's guess, but let me make one right here: Someday, somewhere, somehow, the Ryan family will own a major-league baseball team in this state.
Whether that will be the Rangers, the Astros or a future expansion team settling into the Austin-San Antonio area is still to be determined, but mark my words, it's going to happen.
The Ryan family baseball empire, with patriarch Nolan at its head, continues to grow, and it should come as no surprise to anyone that the ultimate goal, according to No. 1 son Reid, is to one day own a major-league baseball team.
In Texas, of course.
The only real question seems to be just how far in the future that dream lies.
