Q. Does Honda or Toyota have black boxes in their vehicles like that mentioned in the attached article?
_ W.S., Daphne, Ala.
A. The reader sent a wire service story about a woman who claimed to be driving only 40 mph when she lost control of her sport-utility vehicle on a snowy afternoon, slammed into a tree and killed her passenger.
In court, the black box in her SUV provided evidence that the woman was driving "well above" the speed limit and now faces negligent vehicular homicide charges.
The inference from how the article was written was that black boxes are evil electronic devices that tattle on their owners and an invasion of privacy and should be banned from motor vehicles.
Seems those who oppose black boxes define privacy as being able to fib when standing before the judge.
