NEW ORLEANS _ The 61 anglers competing in the Citgo Bassmasters Classic got one week to practice on the Louisiana Delta last month. Most of the fishermen had so-so results as they scoured the vast marshes and canals south of New Orleans for concentrations of fish.
Ish Monroe did OK, and he has been regretting it ever since he arrived this week for his first Classic.
Monroe, 29, of Patterson, Calif., has been the focus of many stories because he is only the second African-American to qualify for the Classic and the first pro. Alfred Williams qualified for the 1983 Classic through the BASS Federation.
