ONE OF THE GREATEST PITCHERS in Chicago White Sox history, Billy Pierce won 211 games and started three All-Star games over his 18-year big league career.
Today, the 74-year-old is still an important part of the White Sox family, making regular public appearances in the Chicago area as a member of the club's community relations department.
But, according to Pierce, these days the speaking engagements are getting harder and harder.
"I played before most of these people were born," said Pierce with a chuckle. "I can mention Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial and even Roberto Clemente, and many of these young people have never heard of them. ...
