A letter-writer in the April issue mentioned the long losing streak of the 1961 Phillies. That year, the Phillies finished with a 47-107 won-lost record.
Could you give me a chart of the five worst won-lost seasons in major league history?
Alex Lockyear Bellevue, Wash.
Rather than list the five or so teams with the worst won-lost percentage, we'll give you a chart of teams that lost the most games in one season.
The list is topped by the Cleveland Spiders of the National League in 1899. The Spiders that year lost 134 games, while winning only 20. See the accompanying chart.
In 1964, did Sandy Koufax toss a perfect game or merely a no-hitter against the Phillies when he faced 27 batters? Also, was this game his 100th career win?
Frank Galloway Lavallette, NJ.
