Surprisingly, a breakdown of Winchester's new Xpert steel-shot shells reveals that the #1 shot is not perfectly spherical, but rather exhibits some facets, surface irregularities and a few ovoid-shaped pellets. The shot column is encapsulated in a surprisingly thin, four-petal plastic shot cup that is seated over a fiber filler wad and a card over-powder wad.

According to Winchester, the water-atomization process generates the greatest spherical consistency in the smaller shot sizes like, #s4, 6 and 7, that are loaded in the 20 and 12 ga. 2 3/4" Xpert line. Regardless, ...
