BERLIN, CT -- Select Energy, the energy marketing subsidiary of Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU), made an April 14th announcement of new wholesale contracts to serve electric utilities in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Effective May 1, 2003, Select Energy will supply Massachusetts Electric Company and Nantucket Electric Company with power to serve a portion of the companies' "default service" customers. In addition, beginning August 1, 2003, Select Energy will provide "basic generation service" to three New Jersey electric distribution companies as a result of that state's recent online auctions.
