With temperatures already pushing into the 80s, it's time to think about ways to cut your summer energy costs.

Some tips for getting the most out of your air conditioner:

_ Set your thermostat at 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Each degree setting below 78 will increase energy consumption by about 8 percent. However, if your air conditioner is oversize, the diminished run time from raising the thermostat setting may result in too-high indoor humidity in some locations.

_ Use bath and kitchen fans sparingly when the air conditioner is operating to avoid pulling warm, moist air into your home.
