Now that baseball season is in full swing and the summer sun is shining brightly, you might be thinking about buying a baseball cap. What should you look for?

Consumer Reports judged caps on fit and construction and on how well they cleaned up. The magazine found that midrange caps, ranging from $10 to $14, offered the best combination of good construction and good value.

When you're shopping, consider these details:

_ Stabilizers. Look under the sweatband to see what's used to keep the fabric from stretching or curling. In Consumer Reports tests, plastic stabilizers held up best in laundering.
