Why the ACC?

Money. Miami believes its athletic department will make more money in the ACC, and discussions began with the intent of forming a 12-team conference with a lucrative football championship game. The ACC divides its revenue evenly among members, with each getting $9.7 million last year. UM received $9 million from the Big East last year, and that was based on UM playing in a Bowl Championship Series game. In years when the Hurricanes didn't, the payout fell to $7.3 million.
