JERUSALEM _ A leading Palestinian militant group has threatened to derail implementation of an internationally backed peace plan by announcing an end to cease-fire talks with the Palestinian Authority.
The announcement by a leader of the Islamic group Hamas surfaced Friday as the first challenge to the prospects of the "road map" peace plan endorsed by Israeli and Palestinian prime ministers at a summit this week in Jordan. It also appeared to surprise Palestinian Authority officials, who insisted that talks, scheduled for Sunday or Monday, were still on course.
