Jun. 4--NOT SOFT ON CRIME -- JUST MORE SENSIBLE ABOUT IT: The Texas Legislature may have done something right after all.
In a last-minute flurry of frenzied lawmaking, the Legislature passed bills that would, among other things, outlaw smuggling a cactus and toughen the punishment for attacking a sports referee or athlete.
Does this mean no more folding-chair sneak attacks in wrestling?
Seriously, though, this much-doubted Legislature has decided that -- if the governor agrees -- first-time drug offenders will no longer go to state prison.
