DUBLIN, OHIO _ Kerry Bullington owns the Movies `N More store in Franklin, Ky., and Kenny and Sandy Perry are among his best customers.
But Bullington doesn't think the $1.8 million Kenny Perry has won on the PGA Tour in the past two weeks will stop Sandy Perry from turning in her receipts to take advantage of his "Rent 10 videos and get one free" promotion.
Sunday at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Perry joined an elite club of multiple Memorial winners that includes Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods and Hale Irwin. In the interview room afterward, Perry gushed over tournament host and founder Nicklaus: "You're the man. I'm honored. It's nice to be sitting by you."
Perry is hotter than the Tabasco company he represents by wearing some of the tackiest golf shirts ever made. Last weekend, while everyone was talking about Annika Sorenstam's effort at the Colonial, he won it. The victory on the course where Ben Hogan claimed five titles meant so much to Perry that he said when he sees his name on the wall of champions, he'll pose for a picture in front of it.
When his charter plane from Texas landed at the airport in Bowling Green, Ky., last Sunday night, he was greeted by about 50 friends and family members wearing Tabasco shirts that his wife, Sandy, had raided from his closet. They had rented a limo to drive Perry home, and the entire gang followed.
"I told him `Maybe after this win you'll get a new shirt sponsor,"" said Holly Bullington, Kerry's wife. "He said, `I like my shirts.' He even thought it looked good with the plaid Colonial jacket. He doesn't care what he has on."
