DETROIT _ No. 300 will have to wait for another day.
Despite being staked to a 7-1 lead Sunday, Roger Clemens' bid for his 300th victory was denied by the Tigers at sold-out Comerica Park.
A crowd of 44,095, largest in park history, watched the longest game since the park opened in 2000 _ 5 hours and 10 minutes.
It took 17 innings before home runs by Alfonso Soriano and Jorge Posada gave the New York Yankees a 10-9 victory over the Tigers.
After the game, manager Alan Trammell popped his head into the clubhouse and told his players: "I'm proud of the way you competed."
"Even when they got the two homers in the top of the 17th, we came back and scored a run in the bottom half," Trammell said. "I'm disappointed we didn't win, but I think we deserve a little respect for the way we hung in there.
