CRAWFORD, Texas _ Say what you will about Ari Fleischer, but not every White House press secretary has received send-off gags from David Letterman and Jay Leno, on the same night no less.

One day after the White House spokesman announced he would be leaving this summer, Letterman devoted his nightly Top 10 to "Signs Ari Fleischer doesn't care anymore." No. 1: "Refers to Bush as President Bonehead."

Over at NBC, Leno provided the "real reasons" the balding Fleischer is leaving his post, beginning with: "Offered the presidency of the Hair Club For Men."

It somehow seems appropriate. For in his own way, Fleischer has also hosted his own TV show, the White House press briefing that appears frequently on cable news networks, transforming the job of speaking for the president of the United …
