May 29--Duluth, Minn.-based Allete Inc. announced Tuesday it has elected two more people to its board of directors, including a woman.

During the comment period at Allete's May 13 annual meeting, a shareholder noted that while much of the company's stock is owned by women, none of its directors were female. She called on David Gartzke, Allete's president, CEO and chairman, to work toward a more representative board, eliciting loud applause.

Gartzke agreed that women should be represented on the board and pledged to consider them for future appointments.
