May 23--Despite noticeable fluctuations during the past year in oil prices, the cost of self-serve gasoline in Las Cruces this Memorial Day weekend is expected to be just modestly more expensive than it was last year.
An all-time average high price of $1.63 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline was set on March 14. But a survey conducted Wednesday showed that the price has since tumbled to an average of $1.39 a gallon. According to the American Automobile Association's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the price for regular unleaded at this time a year ago was $1.38.
