May 21--In a sign of growing business ties between South Florida and Asia, Port Everglades on Tuesday announced its first container shipping service direct from China and South Korea.

Calling weekly at the Broward County seaport with service from Asia through the Panama Canal is a new joint venture of Italy's Lloyd Triestino and Israel's Zim Israel Navigation known as AUX.

The service will allow containerized freight loaded in China's Shanghai and Ningbo ports -- goods such as clothing and electronics -- to land directly in Fort Lauderdale, without being …
