May 20--CPN PROFIT UP DESPITE SRT COSTS: Central Pattana Plc (CPN) posted a 17.6 percent year-on-year increase in the first-quarter net profit to 303.5 million baht, despite paying 45.7 million baht in compensation to the State Railway of Thailand to settle a lease dispute at the Central Plaza Lat Phrao site.

The country's largest shopping centre developer and operator attributed the improvement to the opening of Central Plaza Rama II and the takeover of the World Trade Center in Bangkok in December last year.

Rental and service income in the quarter rose 48.4 percent to 1.26 billion baht.
