New ideas freshen up fading shabby chic style.(The Seattle Times)
Shabby chic isn't reserved for old country cottages and vacation homes anymore. This country-influenced interior design style has managed to weave its way into the mainstream, decorating homes from modest to grand across the country.
The ideology behind the style, which consists of overstuffed sofas, distressed white furniture and pastel fabrics, relies on taking something old and timeworn and making it sophisticated and fashionable. Rachel Ashwell, a pioneer in the use of such furnishings and accents, says shabby chic "turns trinkets from the past into treasures of today."
