Q. How do I propagate my favorite red rhododendron?
A. If you want just one or two new plants and are patient, there's a wonderfully simple method. If you want more, you'll need to root cuttings, which requires some skill.
The easy method, called layering, is this: Find one or more low branches that touch the ground or can easily be pushed down to ground level. Where the stem is in contact with the ground _ ideally several inches to a foot below this season's new growth _ wound the underside of the stem by lightly scraping it.
