To help deal with such common predicaments, scientists are exploring a network of so-called "place cells" in your brain that enable you to know where you are and how to get to where you want to go.
They hope their work will lead to better understanding _ and perhaps treatment _ of spatial memory problems in the elderly and in victims of Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy or brain injury.
These place cells, or neurons, are located in a section of the brain known as the hippocampus, a long, narrow structure shaped like a seahorse and located at ear level in the brain.
