NAPA, Calif. _ Raiders offensive lineman Frank Middleton kept the resentment welled up inside his body for 20 years or so. The anger burned until it turned white hot. He had to let it out before it consumed him.
That day came when Middleton got to college. He reached for the phone and called the person at the root of his inner turmoil.
His father, Frank Sr., answered. Frank Jr. did all the talking. Then he hung up. That giant weight that pushed down on him from every angle disappeared.
"I let him know that he didn't have anything to do with me turning into the man that I was and with me getting to where I was," Middleton said. "I wanted him to know. I had to get that off my chest."
