HOLLYWOOD _ They're among your favorite character actors, who brought to life such memorable TV roles as the irascible Lou Grant, Jerry Seinfeld's Uncle Leo, Andrew Laird on "Dynasty" and Henry the telephone repairman from "Alice."
You'd recognize their faces, even if you can't quite remember their names. But now, as they age, even their faces are fading from view. They say they're struggling to find work in an industry that's obsessed with youth.
"For actors, growing old means 39," said longtime actor Ed Asner, 74, best known for his role as Lou Grant on the "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." "If that's the peak, that must mean I'm now officially dead."
