CHURUBUSCO, Ind. _ This story's origins are steeped in as much muck as Fulks Lake, where many in this town of 2,000 believe a beast big as Jabba the Hut squats in the mud, catching carp with a snap of his shovel-sized jaws.

This Sasquatch in a Shell has never been trapped and rarely if ever been spotted. All photographic evidence of him has mysteriously vanished. But it's clear he has left his clawed footprint on Churubusco in the jewelry Viv Rosswurm wears: It's all turtle, from her silver necklace and earrings to her ring and bracelets.
