CLEVELAND _ When a young Cavaliers team made the playoffs ahead of schedule in 1988, General Manager Wayne Embry visited the parking lot at the Richfield Coliseum. To many of the fans who were standing in line to buy playoff tickets, Embry extended his hand and said, "Thank you."
To Embry, it was a memorable moment because he always has said he is a "people person." So now, with Embry, 65, having ended his 16-year association with the Cavs, I would like to hold out my hand and say, "Thank you."
I first met Embry several months after he took over as the team's general manager in the summer of 1986. I was a cub reporter for the Canton Repository who sporadically attended games, but Embry always treated me as if I were a writer who covered the team regularly....
