LAST YEAR 30 PLAYERS IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES INCREASED THEIR BATTING average by 30 or more points from the previous season. Angels outfielder Darin Erstad topped the majors in this department by improving his average by 102 points from .253 in 1999 to .355 last season.
Below are those players who had the highest increase in their batting average from 1999 to 2000. Players must have played in a minimum of 100 games in both 1999 and 2000.
Note: Moises Alou missed the 1999 season, but he improved his average 43 points from 1998 (when he last played) to 2000--.312 to .355.
